In this episode of a new series of Love, Purpose, Connection, Estelle talks to model and body positivity activist Shareefa. Together they share an intimate conversation about Shareefa’s experiences growing up and feeling ‘different’ as one of very few mixed race children and the daughter of a lesbian mother. She describes how she learned positive affirmation of herself and her body through sharing her experiences candidly with others – partly via her Instagram. She also discusses being an advocate for CALM – Campaign Against Living Miserably.

Shareefa J.

Shereefa has made her name as a plus size model and has used her instagram account to share honest and personal messages about self care and self acceptance, especially through the pandemic. She is always searching for the next challenge in order to encourage and inspire others to break through barriers. She is at the forefront of promoting equality and mental health awareness.  

Shareefa is an ambassador for the UK based mental health charity CALM and works closely with them to help raise awareness and de-stigmatise the conversation around suicide. Shareefa previously ran an organisation called @shine4diversity in which she created short documentaries and photographic campaigns to highlight the importance of racial inclusion within advertising, her last campaign in 2019 was featured in Buzzfeed.
